Exhibit Program: Refuge in Ishq

The exhibit features the collaborative work of two artists, Khatoon and Alicia, who seek to explore the themes of love, freedom, and spirituality through poetry and visual art.

Exhibit Details:

  • 99 images and corresponding poems from the book “Refuge in Ishq: 99 Poetic Visual Offerings of Love” will be displayed.
  • Special exhibit section featuring live whirling by female dervishes and live music, to entice and seduce all senses.
  • The exhibit will also feature a panel discussion with the artists, exploring the inspiration and creative process behind their work.
  • Post-exhibit workshops on poetry, visual art, and spirituality will be available for visitors.

The exhibit aims to not only showcase the artistic talent of Khatoon and Alicia, but also to shed light on the women’s freedom movement in Iran and Saudi Arabia. Through their work, the artists hope to inspire and empower women to find refuge in the transformative power of love and spirituality.

Exhibit Details:

  • The exhibit will be held at the Gallery
  • The opening reception
  • The exhibit will feature 99 images by Khatoon, each measuring 16×20 inches (subject to venue space)
  • Each image will be accompanied by a corresponding poem by Alicia Ali
  • The exhibit will also include a book version of Refuge in Ishq, available for purchase at the gallery
  • Khatoon and Alicia Ali will be present at the opening reception to answer questions and discuss their work
